Recently took our second trip with Railway Touring Company. Back in December during the Black Friday sale I recevied an email which gave us discount off a trip with this company, we went ahead and booked a trip. We paid £50 extra so we could sit on a table with just the two of us. When this terrible Covid 19 struck social distancing was then put in place fine I understand that, but my question is why did this company feel the need to keep our £50 supplement when every couple were sat on a table with just the two of them. I understand everyone has lost money and all businesses need to try and recover but we as a couple have also lost financially. Nobody in the company can seem to see my point of view, we have also been told as we used a voucher we already travelled at a reduced rate. Can anyone advise please, we understand they have a no cancellation policy but I was not cancelling our trip just would like our £50 refunded.

Who cancelled? You, or the provider? If you did, and it was a non-refundable booking, then they are not obliged to refund you anything.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So essentially you willingly paid for something that you received, but others effectively received the same without paying?  I can see why you'd ask the company if they'd be willing to recognise this but don't believe they're under any obligation to refund you as you haven't literally 'lost financially' (you got what you paid for), so if they're uncooperative then I can't see that you have any actual claim - conceptually it's not much different from paying to sit together on a flight and then expecting a refund when others get to sit together without paying to do so.
  • nobody cancelled it was just as eskbanker said we paid to sit together, but infact if we did not pay we would have still been sat together. Just feel they could have compensated in another way. An the fact that nobody was listening to what I was saying.
    Thanks for your input.
