Offer made at asking price...Not sure of seller/EA's game

It's been listed as Sold STC. I've asked the EA if they will take a higher offer but my hopes aren't that high0

Don’t the EA legally have to pass on any offers?0

if you are happy to offer more then why don't you send the EA an email with your best offer and see what happens?0

Do you know the ethnicity of the couple who's offer has been approved?
House buying and selling is very complicated and in my experience, never straight forward. I had two offers accepted before the vendors backed out and sold to other people. At the end of the day, sellers will go with their gut as to who will get the sale over the line. One party will be happy, multiple parties will be unhappy.
Discrimination is appalling and is still prevalent in the world regardless of what people think however the temptation to use our religion, race, sexuality, age, gender as a reason why we didn't get what we wanted is sometimes the easy thing to fall back on.2 -
The whole house buying process is stressful. When I sold my house I had a higher offer but sold to the other person offering asking price. He had been first to view and had started low and increased offers gradually. The higher offer people were obviously annoyed and confused but I decided what I thought was the best route. It really is down to the seller as to who they sell to, frustrating for the buyers though.
You'll find the right one0 -
Good luck with all this, OP. I recall our first house purchase was really easy and straightforward (it was after we moved in that the problems started!) and it's easy to think they're all like that. All my subsequent transactions have been total nitemares!0

Since the agents communication has not been good it is entirely possible the successful offer came from people who were in a better position than you to buy or at least the vendor thought they were. Then the agents reason for why you were not selected is incorrect, they are unlikely to say we stuffed it up and advised the vendor you were not as proceedable
