I've got an Amazon Credit Card and using it for the first time this month.

I'm concerned about the Direct Debit - the direct debit is set to pay the balance in full (confirmed with customer services) yet the payment requested is £7.99
The credit provider does not have the greatest reputation, so I just wanted to check if others with the card have the same issue.

Was your previous statement balance the smaller amount? I've had an account for a couple of years and mine is always right. Plus it's easy to pay the card on the app with a debit card.

Not sure what you mean about the reputation? NewDay supply a few prime cards and all are the same as other lenders, I can't fault them. Their CS are pretty quick on online chat etc too.

You'll get used to their weird looking screens after a while!

It usually takes about 10 working days for a DD to get set up in the first instance but if customer service has confirmed that and you have a record them stating that then I'd say there is nothing to worry about. In the unlikely event something goes wrong the DD guarantee will kick in and you'll be refunded any interest/late payment fees. Otherwise you could always make a manual payment.

What does it show on the statement - something like "your direct debit of £xx.xx will be taken on or around xx/xxx/xxxx" ?  That amount looks like the minimum payment.
  • That's normal. I have mine set to pay in full, and I get the minimum payment as the amount requested. But it always pays in full.

It's just their systems as it's set to default take the minimum. It will take the outstanding balance - but say that bounced, to avoid crapping on you they'd request the minimum as shown.
As I said above, even though I've personally never missed a payment - I know they're half decent - they aren't that bad when it's a prime card. They treat you much better than the sub-prime advisers who seem to think no is the only answer. :)

Exactly. I think if you went mad and for whatever reason the full payment was declined, being it's a variable DD, they'd request the minimum instead. That's what a colleague has told me happened to them in such a situation.
  • @RussWWFC - As recommended above, I would check what it states on the actual statement document rather than on the app.

It may state more clearly what amount will be requested via DD at the end of the month mate.

I pay mine in full each month by direct debit - the payment requested always shows as the minimum payment - that's mine for the end of this month - but it'll take the full balance. It's just advising you of the minimum  payment needed - in case for example something goes wrong with your bank account - like there's no money left in there for the DD!
