O/S Daily Tuesday 11 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day again, but already warm. I have a wash load to peg out, will also water the garden and the greenhouse.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 gone to work early too, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a LO beef, roasties, mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy for the menfolk, I had some herb coated chicken and rice which was LO's from Saturday nights dinner, really enjoyed not having a big meal to prep and serve especially in this heat. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms and chips - not difficult, hairdresser is coming tonight too.
Yesterday work was busier than it has been, and I did see a customer face to face yesterday to deal with her enquiry she was only in the office possibly 2 mins with all the regulations in place. We'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Up early for the return to school, glad it's raining! All these weeks I've woken up early with nothing to do but today the alarm woke me! Packed lunch made so I'm all sorted.
We had a lovely lunch yesterday, Sophie must work on her table manners - throwing food isn't acceptable!! The food was really good, with the 50% off and a £20 voucher it cost £3.40. The city was very quiet which is just how I like it.
Hope you all stay dry today and avoid the promised thunder storms. Take care. XX15 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun is currently shining but I have no idea how it has managed to emerge through all the cloud! We didn't get the promised overnight thunderstorms after all. They are now due around lunchtime and to carry on throughout the afternoon. It's eldest DGDs 16th birthday today and not the day she had planned due to the local restrictions. In fact the year has not been what she had planned either thanks to CV19. First her O levels were cancelled and then the much looked forward to Prom. Not the best year to be 16 when even the smallest thing can feel like the end of the world!
I felt bleurgh all day yesterday. It just swept over me after breakfast and I felt fit for nowt all day. So I did nothing. I took myself off to bed at 9.00 p.m. and, apart from a loo break in the early hours, I slept till 6.00. I think I feel a bit brighter this morning. Maybe it's this heavy weather and I will feel energised after the thunderstorm!
I want to resume sorting through my mum's boxes that have been packed away untouched for 18 years. DD took away all the glassware I had sorted last week and has found homes with various people for a lot of it. Even her cake stand was pressed into service with youngest DGDs birthday cake on it! It was the perfect size! I will see what treasures today brings!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off NMLC
Today is already very wet, we are promised thunderstorms and torrential rain again. I won't be going far.DM slept through most of yesterday and that's after not waking up until after 10.00am. Maybe the heavy atmospheric pressure making her sleepy. I find things more difficult when she's asleep all day as I cannot relax. For now I'm off to empty the DW, such a joy, and get ready for my day.Happy Tuesday to everyone. Keep safe still.16 -
Good morning, and thanks for the start NMLC.It's sunny here, though the forecast is a bit dubious. Yesterday turned out nice after a cloudy start.I had a pleasant afternoon visiting a friend in her garden, I hadn't seen her since before lockdown. It was lovely to catch up. I made my way home via Morries, for a few things, it was quite busy.We had haddock/salmon in parsley sauce with new potatoes and peas for tea - I've got loads of parsley so as it seems a pity to waste it, I'm going to make some parsley butter which I'll freeze in a sliced roll, well wrapped. I've done this before, also garlic butter. In the early evening I made a few more masks for us, can't have too many. It's hardly costing anything, the only thing I've bought is thin elastic. I had suitable fabric in my cupboard, and have made 3-layer masks, with either a bit of J-cloth between two fabric layers, or a layer of thin cotton.Nothing in paricular happening today, I don't think.Hope everyone has a good Tuesday, take care folks.16

Morning
Another sleepless hot and sweaty night chez moi according to my watch that was a sum total of 4hrs 8 min sleep. I remember the bygone days that statement would have been a good thing
Anyway went for an early walk out all the way to the post box! Not exactly a major success for most but akin to climbing everest for me. It was already pretty hot out there so looks like another scorcher here. Supposed to be thunderstorms today there was some last night with lots of lightening ....something to look at instead of sleeping. There are supposed to be lots of meteor showers tonight so that should keep me entertained
Didn't get round to the Narnia cupboard yesterday so depending on the heat levels might have a go today. Seabass for dinner last night which was lovely with capers and garlic butter sauce. Simple one tonight I have a last few chicken tenders in the pack to use up so Ill make a big fat chicken burger tonight and some mackerel pate and toast for lunch
Have a good day all and stay cool16 -
Good morning everyone
It's so hot already, I hate this heat as I just feel like I'm melting. We had some thunder and lightning yesterday and more forecast for tomorrow so hopefully it will break this oppressive feeling.
Steve is desperate for an apple and blackberry pie so that's my mission for today. He has already picked the blackberries from our garden and the veg delivery man brought me 2 kilos of bramleys so I am all ready. Just got to make a load of shortcrust and we are go go go
We had turkey curry, naans and bhajis yesterday which was delicious. Lee made some stilton and apple scones and broccoli and stilton soup for lunch which disappeared very quickly. He has heard from the college and it all looks on track to reopen next month. It will do him the world of good to get back there as he has hardly left the house at all these past few months.
It is my best friend's 2nd wedding anniversary today which means it has been 2 years since the last time I left the house for anything other than hospital. It's made me feel a bit sad really as I had high hopes of going out after I had sepsis and then along came this virus and I have completely lost what little confidence I had. However, I have bought myself a facemask just in case I do go out so there is still a flicker of hope.
I hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are doing. Camelot, I hope the first day of school goes well x Take care everyone x

Morning all! Hells bells, just managed to shut the page I was typing on, welcome to KlutzLand. So it went something like this...30° and thunderstorms forecast by Alexa today, I'll look forward to the thunderstorms, my water butts are one empty and one halfway empty. And it's not even cool at this time in the morning, 18° already. Which sounds lovely and cooling except it's not. Thank you |Gers, I did have a lovely nap but it was filled with weird dreams...I fetched home a table from my friends over the weekend, it's a formica topped one, they type with wing nuts and removable legs, I'll cut the legs down about an inch and half to maintain perfect 'elbows on the table at reading height' and it'll be out temporary outside table. I still have one of those in Wales and my father had one as a pasting table. The only wallpaper he ever put up was anaglypta and I swear he had shares in the decorating shop because it's on nearly every single wall in the house. And it was on every wall in my grans house. And on every wall in my uncles house in Italy. I, on the other hand, hate it.We did in deed have meatballs in our future yesterday, now to find something else, but judging by how little I want to put the cooker on, probably going to be tuna salad with added sharp sticks to keep the cat away since it's his absolute favourite thing in the world. Besides bringing in mice and rats alive for us to play with too of course. It's not just yours millicent
Although not in the middle fo the night when the first instinct is mad rushing round while still trying to work out what's going on...
Well done Nelski A walk outside! Imagine fireworks going off and stuff! The OH saw the Elon Musk Star Link thing over the weekend. And the sea bass sounds gorgeous! Hope you feel better today TA! Monna, the neighbour story made me laughBela, sorry about your mothers news. Dumpling, stick your mask on and go outside this minute! Get in the garden and soak up ome Vit D like a boss! Hey all reading along, hope you're all being good and careful, enjoy tiptoeing through Tuesday...

Morning All,
Still very hot had a small thunderstorm yesterday evening. Should be dry today until 4pm so washing will go out online until about 1pm . Will have to bring in then as I have an appointment this afternoon.
Not much planned for rest of day housework and maybe a bit of repair sewing on a few clothes.

Hi everyone,
I have something to write about today for a change. It's our anniversary (41 years) today and we have booked a meal out tonight. We shall be using the £10 off scheme and I would call Steve a cheapskate but even that can't compare to the anniversary meal we had at IKEA one year. Steve asked if he could go to the shops to get me a card but I told him no so we won't be doing cards or pressies.
Laura sent me a picture last night, they are at the Yorkshire house and had a bat on the living room floor. Goodness knows how it got in but they managed to put a tupperware box over it and slide a laminated sheet under it and Laura released it into a bush. I'm glad it was them and I'm glad Ziggy wasn't there or the bat would have probably been flying round the house.
Talking of Ziggy I'd better take her for her walk while it's still cool. We have had heavy rain in the night but i's supposed to get up over 30 again today.12 -
Morning everyone
Quite cloudy here this morning and feels a bit cooler. Last night DD and I took little grand daughter down to the beach for the first time ( just 10 minutes drive away). She absolutely loved it and took off running towards the sea and sat down in it laughing. She pulled our hands to walk further towards the waves and jumped and splashed. She was wearing her waterproof all-in-one and her wellies, but DD and I got rather wet! She screamed when we brought her out of the water. North Sea wasn't actually as cold as I expected.
This morning I'm going down to sit with dad as my mam has an opticians appointment, then I'm going to go to Asda for some shopping and bus home as it will be too heavy to walk. Then a peaceful afternoon, hopefully outside.
I've made an appointment with a private dentist for next week to see how much the work on my teeth would be, as I'm getting quite desperate and there's still no sign of my dentist re-opening. It's £67 just for a consultation so I think it might be out of my price range as I need teeth out and new dentures made.
Well I'd better move myself and tidy up as I have jobs to do before I go out.
Hope everyone has a good day12
