Right to reject a car
I bought a car from Arnold Clark and had issues from day 1. I’ve not had any heat come out of the vents since I drove it off their forecourt. The car has been back in the garage for 3 weeks to be fixed and there is still no heating. I’ve paid for an independent inspection (Dekra) who confirmed there’s an issue. The garage it was in when it was inspected predicted what could be causing the problems. I have tried to formally reject the car and get a refund but they are point blank refusing and I still have no heating. They are saying that because they replaced the water pump (potential problem) before I bought the car and are therefore not liable. I have applied for section 75 (50% paid on Barclay card) and also gone to the motor ombudsman. Has anyone had any luck with anything similar? I’m due to renew my insurance but don’t want to as I don’t want to keep the car!

If its a VW Golf - the likely culprit is the heater matrix - cost ~£400 to get fixed at an independent.
Dont "try" to formally reject it -- do it.
A well formed letter explaining the issue, under what legislation you are rejecting it and returning it to the dealership should do the trick.
Is it by any chance on finance as they can also be held jointly liable0 -
How did you find the heater was not working in this current weather?1

"There's no heat coming out the vents"... If it's a cooling system or water circulation problem, you're looking at a VERY different issue to if it's an electronic issue with climate control flaps...
So is the engine cooling correctly?0 -
Basics: what was the date of purchase? More than a month ago, less than 6m ago?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
