Landline phone to headset

I'm working at home and for some calls I'd like to use my landline phone with a headset. For lengthy calls its quite uncomfortable to have the hold the receiver.
I have a very basic wired landline phone which is completely functional for everything else so I don't really want to replace it. It just has the two cables - phone line in and receiver out. The headset can have either a usb plug or 3.5mm jack - its an Mpow PC headset with volume/mute buttons on the cable if you use the usb plug.
There do seem to be various adaptors that would have what appear to be the correct connections - would a usb female to RJ45 adaptor do the job? Or an equivalent for the 3.5mm jack? There are a few of these type of things on Amazon but I'm not really clued up enough to know if that's going to work for my purposes. With the usb option there are various references to LAN cables, for instance, and I'm getting a bit confused with the terminology to know if I'm even looking at the rigtht things. I can quite see myself buying a few different cables and all of them end up being wrong in a different way!
Any help appreciated!

I "think" you need a RJ9 male to 3.5mm female converter. Some seem to split into two separate 3.5mm female, one for the microphone, and one for speakers.

Use Skype, worked at home for the last 10 years,or look for a voip service if making International calls.
Get a decent headset1 -
I ordered one of these last week. It arrived today and seems to be the correct piece of kit, but for some reason the sound through my headset is very very quiet. So it does work (thanks!), but the general set up just isn't quite up to it it seems.tafelmoneysaver said:I "think" you need a RJ9 male to 3.5mm female converter. Does Skype require the person you're calling to either have the Skype app or be signed into it on a computer? I've attempted to use a few options like this (Facetime, Whatsapp etc. - things that I can use over wifi so not relying on my mobile signal) but have come a bit unstuck when the other person doesn't have the equivalent app. Its makes things a bit less straightforward then just picking up the phone, which is what I was hoping to do with my landline option. But if you've had success with Skype then perhaps I'm missing some of the functionality?!mobileron said:Use Skype, worked at home for the last 10 years,or look for a voip service if making International calls.

Skype can call landlines, but you may need Skype credit to cover the cost of the calls.0
