By 2016, the average new car sold in the UK was Band C, £30 tax. If this is really is about trying to save £2.50, then it's a very different story to if it's Band M, £580/yr...0

Why can't you tax the new car from 1 September and then get it MOT'd as it is covered until 11 September. No ned to drive it while it is sorned.1

A lot of people these days are driving around in new cars & i hear many saying "my tax is only ...".This is not about £2.50. And even if it was, i don't imagine it'd change the answer any versus if we were talking £580/yr. I'm sure the answer would be the answer.sheramber said:Why can't you tax the new car from 1 September and then get it MOT'd as it is covered until 11 September. No ned to drive it while it is sorned. No really, please, show me.This was simply a "can you" question. What i then do depends on the answer. If the answer is yes then i do A, if the answer is no then i do B. Simple. I'd had a look and i wasn't sure whether i could or not so i wanted to check, that's all.But apparently i've said i'm going to drive it while sorned no matter what.0

And the answer is simple. You can drive to a pre-booked MOT without having an MOT or tax. Just as you've always been able to do, even before SORN came in.If the answer is yes then i do A, if the answer is no then i do B. Simple. I'd had a look and i wasn't sure whether i could or not so i wanted to check, that's all.0 -
Different car but still a tax question so i'll ask inside this thread...How soon after taxing a car can you SORN it?As some will want to know the whys of that question i'm quite sure - my brother had his car off the road for some time doing repairs to it, he then taxed it at the start of August but someone had made him an offer for the car which he took & then sold it tonight.Tried to SORN it tonight & it's saying that it can't be done as it's too soon since the last change.0

why is he trying to sorn a vehicle he doesn't now own?0

SORN is totally the wrong thing to do. He needs to notify the DVLA of the change of keeper (do it online). That will trigger a refund of tax.3
