Holiday entitlement reduced because of furlough

My normal holiday entitlement was 17 days plus 2 wk Xmas shutdown excluding bank holidays. I was furloughed at the end of March and returned back to part time work at the beginning of July going full time at the beginning of August.  My employer has now told me that because I haven’t worked enough days due to being on furlough, my entitlement has been reduced to approx 10 days.  Is this correct? Can he do this without any notification?  I can’t seen anywhere on the internet where this scenario is mentioned.

  • No, he can't just reduce your entitlement.

He can tell you when you have to take your leave, as long as he gives you the correct notice which it doesn't sound like he has done.

Holiday pay entitlement arises from your employment. When furloughed, you are still employed.
