It's not usual to prune silver birch; people just remove lower branches as they grow, but often these die back naturally. As for the cost of pruning a bay tree, that's like asking how much paint will be needed for a wall, without specifying the area. Bay takes pruning really well and it can be sawn down considerably if too large. This isn't a site where people give or get quotes.0

Silver birch bark makes brilliant firelighters...just saying0

It would depend on the size and location of both.

Contact tree surgeons in your area, don't be tempted to go for cheap quotes given by a general gardener as they're not all specialised enough, get 3 or 4 quotes and think it through before making a rash decision.0

Oh dear, shall I tell my wife she's not specialised enough? She was the one who attacked our our wild bay tree and eventually made it into a ball shape. She keeps it pruned that way annually now and isn't even qualified in hairdressing![Deleted User] said:Contact tree surgeons in your area, don't be tempted to go for cheap quotes given by a general gardener as they're not all specialised enough, get 3 or 4 quotes and think it through before making a rash decision.

🤣😂 yep, definitely report her to the tree police 😆😆
A lot of garden owners, though, don't have much experience with silver birch et al and chop at them painfully and leave an ugly or damaged mess in the wake, and then rather than waiting to recover chop some more and ..... 😏😏0 -
Yep like the former owner of the house I moved into last August (2019). They have ruined almost everything in the garden. The silver birch makes me cry; it's going to take a long time to fix that mess, if ever. I only intend to stay ere 10 years. That's not long in tree recovery years![Deleted User] said:🤣😂 yep, definitely report her to the tree police 😆😆

Oh dear ... the neighbours already think I'm a bit batty. Maybe I'm better off leaving a radio out for it at the end of the garden ...
