Tax rebate for self employment

I am due just over 3000 for my 18/19 self employment tax return which was calculated on 03/03/20
It has been "pending" on the website ever since and every time I manage to get through by phone, they add on another month for me to wait whilst they complete their checks. The latest date for completion is 17 September which will be over six months, I appreciate it is longer than usual but this seems a joke, especially considering the SSIE grant was allowed due to that years return

Anything I can do to speed it up?

I am confused by your post.  It seems to be mixing a tax return refund with SEISS.

Sorry no I am just saying that due to my 18/19 return being in, I was eligible for the grant, yet they claim to still be checking the return which is holding up the rebate
  • You should stop using the term "rebate" if you're referring to SEISS.  SEISS is a grant, which is very different to a rebate.

No, the point OP is making is that if the 2018/19 return was accepted for the purpose of calculating and paying out SEISS, why is it apparently not accepted for the purpose of issuing the refund of tax for 2018/19 that is due? Apart from keeping on at them, there is not much you can do. The 0.5% interest is as good as you will get in most places.

A £3k tax rebate can't be that important to the OP given they did not file the tax return until March, which is well past the deadline.  If I was due a sizeable tax rebate, I would get my submission in early.  Maybe because it is not urgent to the OP, IR also think they can be laissez-faire
