Thinking of taking unpaid leave as I am anxious of returning to work at school

    When we opened to years foundation 1 and 6 one staff member quit, 2 refused to come back and 1 just kept the cleaning job but not the dealing with children. 1 of those that refused decided after 2 weeks that she would come back and she was welcomed back no trouble. She knew how everything worked. She knew her hours, what children she was looking after. That's sort of what I want. 
    What would happen to the kids if all the staff wanted that though?
    I know. But that's why I am asking. If she had this option, why can't I.

    Maybe I am. If they say you must come to work or resign then i  will resign. I was ready to resign as soon as I finished in July but I hung on thinking it might get better and not to do anything hasty. That's why i was wondering if this was an option. Everyone was told to comeback in June as we didn't have enough staff to cover all the pods\bubbles. I had 2 bubbles of keyworkers children. Those that didn't come back didn't get paid. That's al! I asking. If they need more staff they need to replace the ones thath not come back since march or resigned already.

    Because the situation is different now.  Your job needs to be done. 


    How is it different. Covid is still around. Everyone was required to come back in June and some chose not too.

    Imagine the chaos if all the hospital workers, police, fire and ambulance crews took the same view as you
    We've been working none stop since the start in very risky environments with no let up and continue to do so
  • I think we are getting to the point where we have to learn to live with the virus, schools are going to have to be a priority so children can continue their education. 
    If you can afford to take unpaid leave, then I can't help but think it would be better to give your job up to someone that needs the money.

    I'm surprised that your school hasn't released the guidelines both my boys schools have sent out information about what's going to be happening in September. Contact your school hun. What years are you with infants etc? What are you so anxious about is it getting it from the children etc? Hugs. X

    I think we are getting to the point where we have to learn to live with the virus, schools are going to have to be a priority so children can continue their education. 
    If you can afford to take unpaid leave, then I can't help but think it would be better to give your job up to someone that needs the money.
    If someone really needs money they wouldn't do the job. I didnt take the job for the money. £50 a week. I loved the job the school before all this happened. I do the job because I wanted a career when my son left school.

    The thing is, you have a job you don't want to go to and are looking for ways to not go in but still keep the job there for when you decide you do want it.  

    That's not really fair on the people who rely on that job being done, so do it or leave it are really the only options.

    Just a quick mention in the newsletter that there will be staggered start times. That's all I know. Before lockdown I worked with 2 middays with foundation children. During lockdown I had to look after keyworkers as I needed to bring my year 4 son to school with me as i had noone else to look after him. So he joined the year 4/5 keyworker group. When i go back my supervisor said I was leaving that I would be looking after year 3. No others with me. Nobody knows how we are going to feed 500 children in 90 mins. If I knew how it was going to work it wouldn't be so bad.
