laptop won't copy to disc.

Hi everyone.

i'm having trouble copying files from my laptop onto discs.

if i put a disc with something on it in it reads it fine, but if i try to transfer any data onto a new blank disc it can't register there's a disc in it.

any ideas what the problem could be?? i've tried two different brands of discs but none will work


HELP!!!! i'm so frustrated with this!!!!

    Is it a CD Writer or a DVD writer and if DVD writer which of the +/-/RAM is it compatible with?

    this is what i've got and i've had more memory put in it.

    please bear in mind i'm a computer idiot!!!!!

    when it asks for a disc to be inserted and you can hear the drive just keep restarting looking for it, you know how you're dvd player sounds when it can't play a copied disc??

    the thing that confuses me is it can read anything with files on that i put in it:confused:

    i thought if the drive was faulty it wouldn't do that?

    that's why i have mse:D

    any help, ideas??? i'm updating the driver through windows at the moment.

    What type of discs are you trying to write to?

    It says DVD/CD Combo which isn't exactly informative but that implies that it's a CD Writer at best (i.e. can only read DVDs not write to them) so it can only write to CD Rs and RWs.

    someone said to use dvd -r. never burnt onto a disc on this lappy before.

    is there anywhere in the control panel that will tell me if it is a dvd burner?? someone mentioned something about it being an optical drive??
