Am I being fobbed off???

After a gearbox recondition and a new clutch, I'm now getting a small vibration when pressing clutch say 1cm when idling and increases when in 5th/6th on motorway?
Also I get a slight judder when moving off from standstill.
Oh, and I have an oil leak which I constantly smell in cabin.
I've driven car over 500 miles.
Garage said it's normal when new parts mix with old parts.
Honda Civic 2006 manual/petrol 8th Gen mileage 107k
I did take it back after week to complain about all the above, had it for 3 days to check and said they fixed the oil leak but other faults are because of what stated above.
500 miles later, almost 10 days later, I still have the same problems.
job cost me just under £1000 so not happy and feel I'm being fobbed off.

You could put it in writting or email, then if things go pear shaped you have your concerns on record.

Or they fitted cheap parts that are not properly balanced.  Or the old clutch masked
additional faults that are now showing.

a gearbox recon AND clutch for under £1,000 does sound a bit cheap (I think)

But an off-the-shelf replacement box - perhaps straight from a breaker, perhaps a quick wash-and-spruce first - and a clutch within a grand is eminently doable.

They said my gearbox was stripped and reconditioned and a brand new clutch fitted.

If the oil leak is still there, I think you need to take it back and complain formally. If the oil leak contaminates the clutch, you will need a new clutch soon.

The vibration is tricky as it's difficult to describe in words how bad it is. It might range from something that is "not even annoying, but can be felt" to "deeply worrying". Perhaps a second opinion form another mechanic who has been driven in the car at speed would help describe the vibration and its seriousness to the garage and a court if it ever gets that far.

You also need to consider whether you asked for a Honda clutch to be fitted or whether you agreed a cheaper part could be used. If a cheaper part was agreed, there will be a lower expectation of the resulting quality of the work. Again, a third-party opinion will be beneficial.

Ultimately to get your money back you may need to have the gearbox removed and examined by another garage. This would confirm if it had been reconditioned or not. A reconditioned gearbox will have everything within specification especially after only a few thousand miles. If anything is out of spec, the garage may be able to claim off their supplier, but if it was their installation that caused a reconditioned gearbox to wear out of tolerance within a couple of thousand miles, I think a court would award you a full refund. Either way, they pay you.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Chinese whispers for it was removed, and a "reconditioned" one was fitted.
