Grandmas pension

Hi all, brand new on here so hope I can find some help
My grandma , who has since passed away, worked for John Player Nottingham for 25 years and on leaving expected to get a small sum each week I guess in the form of a pension (info is sketchy) when she didn’t she asked why and they replied that her records had been lost in the bombing of wwII. The “funny” thing is my Mum has a plaque presented to my grandma from John Player as an award for 25 years service.
I really don’t understand how this could have happened to her and wanted to investigate a little for my Mum.
Any ideas where to start?

So you want to investigate now your grandmother is dead but didn't when she was alive??
Seems a little strange and a bit selfish but obviously I'm only basing that on the information you have provided above.

As I said, I'm just going onton info above.
Selfish if people waited for granny to pass away before trying to get her money for someone else (mum).

Don't let them get to you.

But people need more info to help.

    When did nan die?
    Who's administering her estate?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I remember from last century in some businesses females who had pensions and then married, their pensions were given to them as cash on marriage, they had no rights to pensions.

Back in the day, (pre 1975) it was common for pensions to only pay out if the worker left on actual retirement at scheme normal retirement age.  This could have been 65 for both men and women, as the age 60 for women anomaly only applied to the State pension.

If gran retired at 60, as most women did, there was no such thing as a deferred pension.

Apologies if my comment upset you, it wasn't my intention.
I just felt bad for your gran as your information tells us that her work was known about as well as her earlier attempt to track down possible money owed but nobody helped her (again only going on the info above). Now she's past away, someone is trying to get to the bottom of it which will benefit someone else, certainly not gran.

Again though, take my thought with a pinch of salt as you and your mum know the truth which is all that matters. Silvertabby above has far more relevent information than me.

    Good luck in your quest.

Who were the legal administrators of your late grandmothers estate. Perhaps they could provide you with something more substantial in terms of the actual position regarding pensions. As they would have had access to all the paperwork.
