recorded delivery scam?

Options
okay this is pure supposition but anyway.

heard today of a postie delivering an RD letter today.
after the recipient signed for it and opened it the envelope was empty.

no return address and not expected or a recognised writing by the recipient.

now there was no signs of the envelope being opened or tampered.

now could this be a way of obtaining someones signature?

something to consider

Possibly. But it sounds more like the numpty company have forgotten to put the contents in the envelope.

But I squiggle anything for a signature as I'm too lazy to sign my real name. No signature of mine for RD SD or parcels are ever the same!

Surely every time you send someone a cheque or any signed document you are supplying them with a specimen of your signature. They don't have to go through the rigmarole of sending you an empty envelope.

I see custardy that you had "heard" of this happening. It sounds like a typical urban legend if it hasn't actually happened to you or somebody you know.

It know one reason why it can happen. You pay for something by paypal, and the vendor sends you an empty recorded delivery envelope. They have your money and proof they delivered to you.....

Supposed to, but don't have to, because you can just put an RD sticker on an envelope and put it in a letter box. It works even though you are not supposed to do it. Obviously you don't get a receipt, but you still get online confirmation.

  • So cross today!!!!! I had ordered 2 d.v.d.'s a month from Tesco (love film) ? and they send you one at a time and you pop the d.v.d. into the envelope they send you and when they receive it they send you another one. We were only wanting 2 per month. This went well for months and we posted off our last one and waited on the next one but none came. I sent an e-mail to them and they said they had not received the d.v.d and they would send me out a v91 form to fill in and post off to them and if they did not receive it i would have to pay £10 for the missing d.v.d. I sent the form to them same day it came and they say now they did not get the form from me!!!! Now they have told me i have to write to them giving my full postal address and full e-mail address and where i posted the d.v.d and when and to state that i require a refund of £10 and if i don't state this i may not receive the £10!!!!!
