Far too much to do in a week.  We were in Scotland last week.  It was very quiet it wasn't easy visiting attractions.  Many are closed, some require advanced booking etc etc so you need to check before setting off.

If you are flying to Aberdeen I'd stay somwhere close to the A9 such as Aviemore and use that as a base to do day trips.

@THEV1LL4N you said you are flying into Aberdeen? There's a local lockdown up there at the moment.
The airport is a fair way out of Aberdeen city and if they are picking a car up at the airport there is no need to go anywhere close.

Anyway, I do hope you have planned for the increased time it takes getting around travelling on single carriageway roads, it is not like zipping from place to place on a motorway like it is down south  :)

I wonder what it is that gives away whereabouts I am from haha. Really pleased that we've got McGinn.
Yes, I will most certainly read up on the driving etiquette for those sorts of roads.  I know there's a good video or two over on YouTube so will watch that as I like consuming visual content to learn stuff.
    Thanks for your post  Mollycat.
No bother at all, you're welcome :)

    Congratulations on staying up!!

Although I am very unenthusiastic about living in present day Scotland, that in no way reflects on my hopes that you have a very enjoyable visit. First time visitors from further south do tend to be surprised (in a good way) at some of the scenery and the vastness and of the mountains. Glad to see you have included Dunottar Castle on your itinerary; one of our favourite places that we return to many times. I really hope it's open when you visit.

    Again, best wishes.

Sounds like you had started typing your reply within the quote rather than underneath the quote box.

Sorry, I'm a complete novice on this new fangled internet thing; maybe as per @silvercar's advice.

Emoji's?? No idea where the are now, I just do my own with the keys.....;) like so!

    Hello there

To finish with a personal opinion, (which I'm obviously entitled to hold, but which will no doubt attract dissent). I've lived in Scotland for 57 years.....I would holiday pretty much anywhere on the planet, (war zones exempt) than here....I just don't see the appeal.
As a first time visitor of course you may well be completely knocked out by the scenery and the presence of mountains etc, etc, so on that basis I wish you well and hope you enjoy your holiday.....just don't expect too much. ;)

Well, here is another go at this ‘quoting’ business thanks to advice.
mollycat, I am intrigued by your comments that you don’t see the appeal of your beautiful Country. Can you please expand on this?
I took holiday there and was knocked out! Admittedly the west coast and across to Inverness. Fabulous.
mollycat you are so lucky(except weather).
O.P you will love it! Not visiting Skye? Take ferry there and return by bridge. Wonderful.

    Regards. Another Villain.

  • Success! Managed to quote. Thanks for help

I've just been speaking to a colleague who has just got back from a week trying driving around the Highlands. He said it was far from the image of open roads and they were constantly stuck behind convoys of motorhomes.

We will perhaps go around Skye to have a good drive around and maybe stop in a couple of places and maybe overnight closer to the East of Skye.  I am thinking of doing the Broadford to Elgol route as part of this.

    What is recommended for Skye?
I think we have enough castle visits planned for the week so I would like to do something else to mix it up a bit.  Maybe something easy-going and not anything extreme.
