Council tax extortionate

Over £200pm sounds high for a band C. That sounds more like a Band D/E. You will be liable to pay the Council Tax for every month of the tax year that you live in the property. I think the confusion might be that councils normally give you the cost for the next 12 months - this is not a bill for the last 12 months, but what you will pay for the next 12 months.0

My current balance according to the online service is £1354 and my monthly payments £193 a month until March. My annual bill is £1664 so if I add an extra 3 months on top of the payments I’m making to make up the full 12 months it’s just over £1900.0

And I have opted to pay over 12 months by the way0

You should only pay for the time you have lived there. I agree with eidand, phone them and find out what's going on. Martin Lewis has often mentioned that we should all check our tax bands because councils do get them wrong. Surprisingly often, it appears. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Given you say "I" rather than "we", are you entitled to the single person discount, and has it been applied to your bill?

If you were paying a full year over 12 months then you would pay £138 per month (12 x £138 = £1664)adam123456789 said:My current balance according to the online service is £1354 and my monthly payments £193 a month until March. The £1354 is the % of the annual total that reflects the amount that you are due (81% of the full years amount reflecting you will not have been responsible until you moved in)
It appears you will be making 7 payments of £193 - it takes them a while to sort out the bill so compress the amount due over the remainder of the year...I am guessing you have not paid anything up to now and will be paying September to March..which include the mid-June to end August into the figures. Is that correct?0 -

Are you paying 7 instalments, September as the first payment followed by 6x £193 final payment in March 2021?This years bill needs to be paid by end March 2021 and you’ve missed the months from when you moved in to when you got the bill and payment plan set up.Your 2021 bill will be full year over 12 months, so will be less per month as you’re paying over more months1
