Covid test results and holiday

Wife works for a private nursing home in Scotland .she gets tested for covid twice a week.
Are you sure you don't mean every 2 weeks?
Twice a week is OTT. Even nurses in hospital only get tested every 2 weeks. Any shorter period is pointless due to its incubation period.

Test results are now usually available within 12 hours - 24 at most. Why is this one taking so long?
Also if this is your wife's normal place of work, then this is a journey she is prepared to take, complain that 3 hours of her time is a lot by all means, but people choose their commuting distance themselves, so it is not totally the employers fault. Obviously administering the tests at the place of work is the most central point, though if there is one nearer your home then you could ask if you could use that one as an alternative.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I should have been more clear, sorry - the employer should of course pay for the costs in doing the test, but the test request itself is reasonableSpreadableToast said:
But completely unreasonable that she has to potentially spend 3 hours, unpaid, in order to do so.mattyprice4004 said:My advice would be to put the needs of the greater good ahead of your own agenda.
While mildly inconvenient, making sure all staff are negative strikes me as very responsible.Terrible that your wife has to park her backside on a bus to save lives... the horror!
Either they do the test when she is at work or pay for the hours she is, for all intents and purposes, working.0 -
Can your wife not just order the test from the gov to your home instead of travelling through? It does seem ridiculous that she has to travel through 3 hours on days off - it should be provided when she’s at work that makes a lot more sense.0

I'm confused -- she "normally" whilst working has to do the 3hr trip to be tested and isn't complaining about this journey ?
But now, because she is CHOOSING to go on holiday abroad this is suddenly a big issue
Am i understanding this correctly ?0 -
OP, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, I think you also need to be mentally prepared for a period of quarantine after you return. Greece is seeing a spike in cases and we have all seen how quarantine can be re-imposed overnight if our government deem it necessary. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best! It's not difficult!

Unless they are on contracted, zero hours employment as is the case for many.Dr_Crypto said:In the OP it said the wife would have to travel 3hrs unpaid on a day off to take the test. That seems unreasonable.Getting staff tested is perfectly reasonable but it should be on the employer’s clock.0
