Sold debt

About 6 years ago I had a Nationwide account that got sold to a debt agency in April this year I paid it in full.
I went to Nationwide as they wrote to me about my mums account (she passed away 10 years ago) and they advised me the accounts were still open with the outstanding amount attached.
I called the debt agency and they said as they sold the debt it should have been closed at that point. Each of them are passing the buck. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Advise great fully revived.

Perhaps the money has yet to filter through the system. Covid delays........... A suspended account isn't going to be high up the list of priorities.1

So who's account was the debt under?
As you are not clear in OPLife in the slow lane0 -
It was sold to Robson way A debt collector.0

Whose accounts were these?0 -
If they sold the account the account can’t be open. The account is closed by Nationwide and sold on for pennies.
Do you mean your mums accounts are still open?0 -
Hi, no they told me my accounts were still open. When I called the collection agency they told me my accounts were paid in full and that when nationwide sold the accounts, they should have been closed then.0

The status of the accounts themselves is nothing to do with the debt collection agency, so ignore anything they tell you about that - they simply pursue you for a debt they purchased from Nationwide, without any need to know how that debt actually originated.cairojones said:When I called the collection agency they told me my accounts were paid in full and that when nationwide sold the accounts, they should have been closed then.

I see, thank you. I have asked them for a letter confirming I have paid in full, so I am going to send this to Nationwide to get the accounts closed. Nationwide told me not to worry but I hate things like this hanging over me.0
