Not your normal one...
A friend wants to get his daughter an MP3 player for Xmas...she's 11.
They want to spend about £50-70....so not a 10 quid stick from Hong Kong.
They haven't got a PC (yet), so need one that comes included with a wall charger (as opposed to sole USB).
At least 1Gb internal or card storage, video player not essential.
Any ideas?
(Muggin's here will be provided with the personal CD collection to rip and upload for her, so no worries on that score)

Previous generation iPod Nano, so she won't be bullied at school. Easy to get a charger for Ipods off ebay.0

As i've mentioned on another thread, the creative Zen are a pretty good alternative to low-priced Ipods:
64 quid (2gb) - http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3560215/Creative-Zen-2GB-MP3-Video-Player/Product.html
76 quid (4gb) - http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3471498/Creative-Zen-4GB-MP3-Video-Player/Product.html
It looks the business, its got a bigger screen than the Nano, plays video files, plays mp3/wma, can display photos from digital cameras (it can read Compact Flash cards)
Downpoint... it charges from USB, so you'd need something like this:

This has been covered over and over again on this forum, use the search tool and see what advice comes up.
iPods and Creative Zens will be the choices.0 -
If you really want to save money, Amazon have 2Gb Sandisk players for £15.99, powered by standard AAA batteries so no charger needed.
If you want something fancier have a look at Creative players. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Looks great.
The reason i asked for a proper charger was that I roasted an Iriver Clix2 using a dodgy universal charger, but the voltage control on that Maplin one looks good. Thanks.0 -
I did...and i can also read a question.

The question was for one that came with a wall charger as standard, as opposed to USB.
Then you'll obviously have found this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=609133
All USB MP3 players, can be charged using a USB mains charger, if you don't want to keep syncing with a computer.
My two links for buying them:

and

If I was in a similar situation, I'd get a iPod Nano and a mains charger. Apple resellers and Amazon also sell more "official" ones.

Hi
I have just bought a Creative Zen V 4 gig from Dixons, £59.99, and I am quite impressed with it. like any new gadget you need to play with it to get to know how it works, not very difficult only works on XP or Vista though, ( I have win 2000) so I used my daughters laptop (xp). The only downside for me was the awefull earphones it came with."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
