Test to avoid quarantine?
One of the employees has been in Portugal for 2 weeks and is due back on Tuesday 11th August. Now I thought that he had to quarantine for 2 weeks but my employer and the employee in question is saying he is having a test which means he doesn't have to quarantine. Is this true?

Tests are not the quick and easy solution for quarantine-free travel British culture minister, Oliver Dowden, told BBC Breakfast.
“It’s not the case that you can simply test somebody and be sure that they don’t have the disease. It can incubate over a period of time so there’s not a silver bullet of just testing immediately at the border ... We are not at the point where there is a viable alternative to the 14-day quarantine."
The option is one of the possibilities under review he added. Meantime insists Holland-Kaye, testing could be part of the response. “More work needs to be done, we need to test and learn."

Couldn't really find much info about it, as I suspected it is probably a load of rubbish just to shut me up. Is there anything I can do about this. As I don't really want to be taking the virus home to my partner and 2 children. Theres no point asking the employee in question to wear a mask or keep his distance as it just falls on deaf ears and he really doesn't care.
Plus the employer won't help out about it.0 -
Maybe an anonymous contact to the powers that are meant to be checking/enforcing quarantine
How long have you worked there ?0 -
I'd think the employer has a "duty of care" which seems to be ignored. Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!0

I have been there for 15 years and have a title of manager, not that it means much. Myself and the employer don't have the best relationship, as in any queries I have about pay or things like this end up in an argument. So very hard to talk to him. Plus I need the job at the mo the way the economy is.JamoLew said:Maybe an anonymous contact to the powers that are meant to be checking/enforcing quarantine

Ironically we do a lot of work for a local airport, which is where me and the employee in question will be working on his return. We are a manufacturing company and we make and install items.0

Given that the coronavirus can hit at any time in the 14 days after he has returned from overseas, there is a requirement to isolate for 14 days.
The only way I would be confident that someone hadn't picked it up is if they had already had it and had a positive antibody test. According to the Telegraph
The quarantine is enforced by Border Force, police officers, and Public Health England officials. They have the powers to visit the homes of all those affected by the new rules, and to perform spot checks.
He will be advised about quarantine when he arrives and will have to complete a form with details of where he will be staying.
