Insuring a motorcycle at my parents house - Renewal price

I moved out of my parents house and left my motorcycle there as it's garage with an alarm and my new place doesn't have a garage so don't want to leave it on the street. My renewal came through at £300'ish so I rang up and said my personal address has changed but the bike address has stayed the same now I'm being quoted £1100 does this seem insane? Going through compare sites with the correct details I'm getting prices back at around £300 still.

Before anyone says I'm not trying to commit fraud or anything by putting a different address on.

  • Looks like your current insurer doesn't want your business anymore so go elsewhere.

The reason people might say that is because that's how it looks.  I suspect your insurer thinks the same hence the hike in premium.

How far is your address from your parents'?

Annoyingly the cheapest on the compare sites is the insurer I'm currently with

Which says that that's the price for the risk that the insurers perceive your business as posing.

So ring them and ask the question just as I did only a few weeks ago, renewal price £318, comparison price £309, rang Bennetts (who are one of the best IMO) and had good chat with helpful chap who said 'I,m not gonna mess you about £275' to which I thanked him and told him 'lets get on with it then' job done :)

I didn't explain well, my insurer on the compare sites is quoting the cheapest at around £300 but after ringing them and updating my details to the same details as whats on the compare sites they have bumped it up to £1100. Same insurer quoting 2 completely different prices.

So take the cheaper quote, assuming everything else is identical.
If they won't, then go to the next cheapest who suits your needs.
  • Maybe you should start again then, put all your correct details or the ones you actually want the insurer to base their risk on, see what comes up on the comparison sites and ignoring your present insurer go for the next best, there's no loyalty (or very little these days) for staying with the same insurer.
