But surely by only washing one pillow at a time, any resident mites in the others will just transfer over immediately so you never actually get rid of them

Your right of course however to get rid of them altogether (although even this would be temporary,as they are unfortunately a fact of life and cannot be gotten rid of completely)I would have to completely do the pillows ,duvet,mattress,bed-base,curtains and carpets all at once:D

since I can't realistically do that ,this is a better option .bearing in mind I also use pillow and mattress covers which are changed every other day................but I cannot wash all pillows at once or I would be buried in them;)

Didn't I read somewhere on here that the way to deal with mites was to tumble dry them on hot for, um, 20 minutes was it? So rather than having a wash day it might be worth having a regular tumble drying day and do them all at once. :)

I'll see if I can track down that reference...
they don't like hot or cold so you cold also stick your bedding in the freezer......an old one preferably, but I'll settle for hot water cleaning................

    interesting fact

. Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow may be composed of dead mites and their droppings.

OMG:eek:, our bedding must be alive with mites. I change the bedding once a week IF I'm on top of things, once a fortnight if things are sliding. The mattress and pillow covers get changed ...no, I can't put it in writing!:o:o

I literally have to prise my son's duvet from to wash!!!!

He drags it everywhere with him and is constantly curled up in it, watching tv, eating dinner, playing on the PC etc :rotfl:

He even moaned when I washed it recently cos it didn't smell right anymore

If you have eider, goose or duck down duvets, you can have them recovered and the fillings topped up at a reasonable cost. I have one single duvet that is years old that I did this to and it made it like new.

I used to launder duvets and pillows but since moving (for part of the year) to an area of the country that is stuffed with guest houses and holiday lets I've found that I can buy 4 pillows or a duvet for £5. At that price it aint worth washing them.
