in Credit cards
Hi
I have a sainsburys credit card with almost £9k on it, a mix of furlough and maternity leave has left us with a chunky debt to pay. The apr is 19.16% so its a fair whack of interest every month.
Ive tried applying for balance transfer 0% but im not getting anywhere, probably because im on furlough or my utilisation is high.
Anyway, my husband tried the barclaycard eligibility checker earlier to see about shifting it over there on an offer. Filled it in and even though we clicked through from the balance transfer page, where it asked what the card would ve used for balance transfer wasnt an option. The only two options were 'to get rewards on purchases' or 'for purchases'. We don't want to make purchases but had to click one in order to proceed.
Could that have been a reason they said no? Or am i clutching at straws?
Were really trying to get sorted but being told no at every junction is a disheartening.
Thanks

Might simply be that balance transfers aren't being offered to new customers for very obvious reasons at the current time. Lenders have a duty to lend responsibily.1

How long is the 'purchase' offer?
You could get this card then do your normal day to day spending on it leaving funds that you would have used to pay back the Sainsburys card.
However as above you need a plan B to actually reduce the debt or you will be in a worse place when the promotional period ends.0 -
Don't think there was a promotional period, just 'rewards on purchases'.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

At the moment if you click through on the balance transfer option, there is only one choice.
Is it possible that when you looked they also had the reward card a a option?Platinum card

If your debts are becoming unmanageable, then look to do the right thing, no more side stepping or further borrowing, you may need debt management advice.

I dont recall seeing a rewards type option but ill have another look, clicking from balance transfer page only gave the one form to fill in. Perhaps theyre just not taking on many now, although i believe the promotional 18 months 0% is still listed.
Dont need debt management advice, managing repayments fine, i just would rather it cleared quicker and paid less interest.
Thanks everyone0
