Travel insurance

I bought travel insurance on 27th Mar to cover a trip to New York. I bought from Alpha insurance (through moneysupermarket.com). At the time of booking I fully read through the policy wording & their standard cancellation would have covered me for any cancellation based on government advice not to travel. I have just been on their website to discover that have have implemented a policy stating they will not cover ANY claims relating to Coronavirus for policies taken out after the 13th March. How is this legal that they can backdate a policy change after the policy was purchased? This is purely a header on their website & their policy wording remains unchanged to what it was when I booked! Surely they can’t do that?!
