Furlough

Hi
I have currently been receiving furlough payments from March until now which has been 80% of my wage. In September the government reduces their contribution to 70% and the employer pays 10%. Does anyone know if you would only work the 10% of your hours (pay from the employer) or can they ask you to work more hours? I didn’t think they could as 70% was a furlough payment and I thought you couldn’t work for your company whilst on furlough
Thanks

You can not work while on furlough. The cost of furlough are progressively passing to the employer.
Flexible furlough allows you to do some days work and some days furlough.1 -
Thanks, does that mean I can’t do any work for them even though they will be contributing 10% and then 20% in October? I was under the impression that if the employer was contributing you had to work the 10%0

You appear to have the wrong end of the stick.
Flexible furlough is now a thing, where you can work some hours/days - whereas, on 'normal' furlough, you could not work at all.
If you are furloughed now - for however many hours/days per week, you will still receive 80% of your pay for that time.
If you work - for however many hours/days per week, you will receive 100% of your pay for that time.
Your employer can flexibly furlough you for as many days/hours as they want, but they must now contribute to that 80% figure for the time you are on furlough. Whereas previously, the government paid the full 80%.
You could work 1 hour per week, 39 hours per week or no hours like before. It doesn't matter.

This assumes that your pay hasn't been reduced. Some employers reduced pay to 80% whether the employee was working or on furlough.jimkelly said:You appear to have the wrong end of the stick.

I know at least one large employer that has put all their staff, furloughed or not, on 80% pay from 1st April until at least 31st December.0
