O/S Daily Friday 7 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day - but this is not unusual the sky very often clears and we get bright sunshine - this is the forecast for today and some hot weather.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my porridge and first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 gone to work early also. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken chargrills with creamy tomato bake, sides of mushrooms and peas. Tonight something quick with chips etc. Mine will be something and salad.
I had a communication late last night from my nail tech saying her 8.30am this morning had cancelled and did I want that appointment instead of the 4pm today I had booked, so have a nail appointment at 8.30am - can't wait to get them looking decent again. I'll then do the food shopping at my leisure afterwards.
Got done what I wanted yesterday -- so all I need to do today is DS2's bed linen and the towels from my bathroom. I'll get those going in the WM shortly.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for another early start. The sun has his hat on and a scorcher forecast.
I never got back on after my lost riveting post yesterday but, as is par for the course these days, I had nothing remotely interesting to say. This local lockdown has affected me far more than the first one and I think it's downright cruel to deprive those housebound and living alone of contact with friends and family, even if it's just in the garden. Yet other people can still gad off to the pub or a restaurant. There's a lot of ill feeling around against those who ignored the rules in the first place prompting this action by the Gov.. Oh well rant over.
As I had nothing better to do yesterday I did the Friday Tidy a day early, in readiness for today's high temps. I also made a big pan of lentil soup and that is now bagged up in the freezer. Whatever the weather I still enjoy my lunchtime soup and salad bagel or wrap! I had a tub of sad looking mushrooms in the fridge so made an omelette adding them to some ham and cheese for my tea. Not my favourite meal but it saved chucking the mushrooms! It will be fish of some sort tonight I think. I am well stocked with a selection.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care and stay safe x

Morning all.
Phew! It's hot already so goodness knows what it will be like later on. My friend has to drive to our one biggish town today to pick up her new specs and wants me to go with her. I was sort of reluctant but there are a couple of things I need and Gangsta Granny next door needs something too. Depending on the state of the traffic it shouldn't take more than an hour or two, which is quite long enough in this heat.
For the rest of the day I'll be taking it easy in a darkened room. I'm not good in heat so I'm afraid this glorious sunshine is wasted on me. I must have been a mole in a previous existence.
I hope you are all keeping cool and enjoying the good weather. I imagine that the spa will be busy today.

Morning all.I'm so sorry about your situation TA - you're right about the idiots who have careless. Hold tight...things will get better again. My day yesterday was better than Wednesday. When the cleaner was here I took the chance to do a little idle wandering. Well, I collected a couple of parcels from Marks and then did a visit to the tip (no queues this time) and then went for the Italian tarts. For a change I couldn't park outside so found a space further away on the main road. This meant I had a wee walk which took me down the hill towards the deli and right past a brand new fabulous patisserie. 😛 The window display was full of beautiful delicate wee cakes, imagine what is baked on that TV show with professional bakers. Of course I had to in, and of course I took ages choosing two cakes and of course I spent an inordinate amount of money on them. 😃😃 DM ate half of hers, she's saving the rest of today though I'm not as disciplined!Despite the promised heat today I will have to wait in. DM's GP is coming to visit at some point, she pops in when she can, so no going out until she's been. I'm sure I'll find things to while away the time.Hugs to those who need a wee squeeze. Happy Friday to all. 💕14

Morning All
Bright sunshine this morning, the bedding is on the line, hoping to get it dry in an hour or two as it's quite breezy too. Yesterday's washing is all put away and I actually ironed what needed it - unheard of!
I'm going to the allotment this morning then heading up to DS1s to see him and the DGC, I'll stay tonight as he's booked a farm park visit for tomorrow, may come back tomorrow evening or Sunday morning, I'll see how tired I am!
Not a lot happened yesterday, lots of pottering and I planted up the new strawberry tubs, one can go up to DS1s today if I can lift it in the car, I hurt my back yesterday lifting it up the steps in the garden.
I love your quote of the day monna, I do that all the time! Take care. XX14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I had quite a nice day yesterday, went for a walk and found a graveyard, I think it might be a sort of overspill one from the local church. Interestingly, the earliest graves were from the 1930s, a couple from the 40s, and then it continued until the early 90s. I don't think there were any after that other than one very new one from 3 weeks ago and I was quite curious why that would be. It can't be for reasons of space, it is big and the plots are well spaced mostly. The place is not particularly well maintained though some effort has been made. It was very peaceful and sone old trees had fallen and been dragged to a sort of tree dump bit and I was able to gather some fallen bark from the ground, for my borders. Not sure if that is foraging or scavenging.
Just waiting for the electrician now and then I can do various things of absolutely no interest whatsoever. The chaps are out today so I don't need to consider anyone else other than cooking dinner. TA we ate the same thing last night.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Just popping in to say Hello, excitement of the day will be a Tesco delivery and doing a heap of washing! not so keen on the heat, prefer a cooler Spring breeze. I won't go out as I live in the North Cotswolds' and the visitors don't seem to practice social distancing. They also just leave their rubbish behind for locals to clear up. I know the local businesses are desperate for customers I just wish there was a way of controlling numbers. I know I live in a lovely part of the country, just wish I could enjoy it. Sorry for a negative post but its how I feel.

Morning all,Well it's warm outside but certainly not sunny yet- perhaps later. I have my shopping coming at lunchtime, will need to clear the worktop a bit first. Realised there are a few things I forgot to put on . Yesterday I made moussaka for tea to use up some lamb mince that had been in the freezer a while. It seemed to take me ages, think I'll just get a rm from marks when I fancy it againBuilders are at the back in conifer womans garden building an extension to her bungalow. Although I'd like the said conifers 6' shorter, I hope they never die off because there will be a window looking straight at our houses. She is a lot higher than us and it is much higher than the fence
I came back from walking the dog down the main road where there is a clearer view - I was shocked to see how far it extends down the garden. Her next door neighbours will now be looking at a brick wall from their conservatory!
TA we are also in the local lockdown and it is galling to think we cant have a visitor in our garden but people are flocking to pubs/ restaurants. As DS2 is a single dad who lives with us, his children have still been coming and we counted them as our 'bubble', the rules are so contradictary we aren't sure if this is right or notAnyway better get a move on, take care everyone x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning, Steve has taken Ziggpup out while it's still (relatively) cool. I didn't go because I'm still recovering from a chest infection - I got antibiotics a couple of days ago and am starting to feel a bit more human but not up to a walk in the heat. We did have a gentle stroll round the block last night so I might do that again tonight if it cools off enough.
So, no news here really, oh apart from Steve deciding to buy a new car. I thought we'd decided to keep the one we have for another couple of years but apparently not, we'll be getting the new one before we go up to Yorkshire in a fortnight (decided I was using too many couples).
Laura says that Esben is becoming used to people again thankfully. He managed not to cry at his other grandad, just a wobbly lip. Hopefully he'll be fine with Brian's mum because he doesn't seem to be as wary with women.15 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here with 31 deg forecast for today and tomorrow will be even hotter !! I have a wash on the go which will dry well today.
Will have a quick wizz round today and do the basics of housework but wont over exert myself in this heat, I will be at Nels from about midday get the cocktails ready Nels !!
Not sure about dinner tonight but could possibly be a bbq as its too nice to sit inside, my poor OH has been working on a roof all week and comes home shattered and to hot and bothered, a cool beer and eating in the shade will help im sure.
My neighbor left me some courgettes and cucumbers on the step yesterday which was lovely of them so I will use them over the next few days.
Right better move have good days all xx14
