It's at Kirk Hill, Ayrshire. 8x 3MW turbines.
Edit: the offer document says 8 x 2.35MW turbines; there were some planning permission issues with the site so maybe they switched to shorter, less powerful ones?

    2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 33MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.

    The offer has gone live.
I'm a little concerned about the build timeline in the document which doesn't see the turbine go online until November 2023 - assuming everything goes to plan.  The foundations aren't due until December 2022.
That's consistent with Ripple's previous statements that WT2 wouldn't come on-line until the end of 2023.
I think WT1 took a similar amount of time to come to fruition. Perhaps a WT1 member could comment on this?

  • I've been a reservation holder for a while now but glancing at the ROI and the lead-time for savings is pushing me to just sticking with Octopus GO and S&S investments, returns and arrangement fees are just too unattractive.

    From the proposal:
Applicants should understand that any share purchase they make is an acknowledgement of their support for the development of renewable energy and accordingly, a subscription for shares in Ripple Wind Coop 2 should be primarily regarded as an investment for social and environmental purposes rather than one which will produce a significant financial return

New supplier partners appear to be Eon Next, So Energy and Unify Energy.

If Eon Next is confirmed, that will be an appreciable comfort factor.

Yes I understand it's about the greater good, we've just retrofitted a heatpump and had gas removed, use a green energy supplier etc

I just don't think I can swallow their £1.9m arrangement fee
  • My primary concern is cystal ball based over the lifespan of the project.
In 10+ years are these small turbines likely to be obsolete given the advancements in power generation over the last 10 years.  Offshore wind generation can be much much larger and more efficient.  I suspect land-based wind generation will be far more efficient too and suspect shareholders may see an 'upgrade fee' to keep these turbines relevant ?

So why not simply invest in a wind turbine company such as Greencoat Wind (not a recommendation by the way) which is an 'investment for social and environmental purposes' and is currently also paying decent returns?

I think the main crystal ball component is whether you think electricity prices are going to stay high over the medium term. The offer is based on same figures as Graig Fatha, with generation costs at 2p/kWh giving a rebate of about 4p/kWh. However, the initial rebates for Graig Fatha are double that, owing to the prevailing energy prices.

As for longevity, the initial design life is 25 years. There are plenty of turbines approaching that age all over the place.
