Renewal vs New quote from the same insurer

Companies would be much safer simply either a) refusing to quote online for returning customers or b) redirecting the customer to their renewal quote (not simply returning the renewal quote premium).
M&S/Aviva did used to say that you wouldnt get a cheaper NB deal online but this year they confirm that you will because of their online marketing messages and their inability to redirect returning people to their renewal quote (previously they were wrong and you did still get it cheaper as a NB quote online.)0
