My employer has just told us all that when we leave the british isles and holiday to a country that the FCO says is safe to travel to and 14 day self isolation is not needed on return, Tha t we have to even though it is not required.
They also insist that we take AL or Time off without pay.
Where do i stand.

When and where are you proposing travelling to?0

This was discussed at length, and the upshot seemed to be while they can't force you to take it off unpaid, any employer can dictate when you take annual leave so they might just tell you you're having it when you get back.0

Subject to giving you sufficient notice so if you're going for a week (Mon-Fri) and your employer tells you the Thursday before you go that they want you to take annual leave when you return then they can't make you take 10 days as it's too short notice but could still make you take 1 week, presuming you haven't already used all your annual leave!mattyprice4004 said:any employer can dictate when you take annual leave

Kudos to your employer for trying to keep employees safe when the government doesn't seem to give a stuff.
Sorry to say that the usual rules cannot apply in times of coronavirus, can they??? (A. No.) I'm happy to go on leave when my boss tells me to. Oh, wait . . . I'm self-employed. . .
But if I were employed, I'd be happy to comply. What a sensible employer you have. Be grateful.
My friend went back to work last week, two colleagues displayed covid symptoms. He's back at home 24/7. Nobody's immune. (Pun intended). Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I'm not sure that you are obliged to tell your employer where you spend your annual leave.slackgarry said:My employer has just told us all that when we leave the british isles and holiday to a country that the FCO says is safe to travel to and 14 day self isolation is not needed on return, Tha t we have to even though it is not required.

If the employer is doing it because they care about their employees or because they don't know what to do?MalMonroe said:Kudos to your employer for trying to keep employees safe when the government doesn't seem to give a stuff.

As an employee I'd be more concerned if I was in close contact with a colleague who had just been to a UK city with a lot of cases to visit a relative than if someone had just returned from a country with no recently reported cases.1 -
If the employer is doing it because they care about their employees or because they don't know what to do?
That was my thought. Ultimately they can make you take the time off work as annual leave if that's what they've decided is company policy (and they may have good reasons for this), but it might be worth speaking to whoever is making these decisions, asking for the rationale, and if necessary, politely present some evidence for your own argument. You can but try...
