I discovered today that what I thought was a French drain alongside a wall of my garage is not a drain at all. The gravel is only an inch deep and beneath it is a concrete slab that hinders drainage. Given the garage wall in question faces a slope, I can only conclude the job was bodged to save money. I investigated because of repeated pools of water in the garage alongside the pretend French drain.
