Lastminute.com + 2 flight companies

My wife and I had booked through lastminute.com to fly to mainland Spain to see her dad who now lives over there. We were due to fly with Jet2 outwards and Ryanair back. Jet2 have cancelled our flight as they are not flying to mainland Spain at the minute. After contacting lastminute.com they are putting a request in for refunds from the airlines and if they receiverefunds from the airlines they will pass this onto me. Is this right or do lastminute.com need to refund me themselves? I'm not hoping for the Ryanair flight to be refunded as they are never going to cancel their flight.

Was this a package holiday or flight only? Most (all?) third parties for flight bookings will wait on the return of the funds they gave the airline before refunding their customer (suspect few have sufficient cash reserves to pay out first)
    also check for service fees
  • It was flights only

Then you have to wait for the airline to refund LM. They will eventually then refund you, possibly minus an administrative fee. I also suspect it will only be the money from Jet2 and the cancelled flight that is processed.

Sorry to ask but genuine question.
Is there any advantage to buying flights from these 3rd parties even at the best of times ?
Is it the delay of payment or the like ?

Is that a rhetorical question ?

You've essentially booked two one way flights. Even though you booked them at the same time via Lastminute, they have just acted as your agent.

You'll get a refund for the Jet2 flight, but not the Ryanair one (unless they do subsequently cancel).

In theory then it should be Lastminute who refund you regardless of when the airline refund them. That said, the airlines are being very slow with refunds, so it's a simple matter of cashflow.
