Travel Insurance that would cover local lockdown

I have a short UK break booked in a few weeks and with various local lockdowns going on I am now worried that if our home area was locked down and we are told we can't travel, we would lose our booking and money.  The terms on the booking state that if they can re-let the accommodation for the same week we would get all but our deposit back, but if this can't be done we would lose our full payment.  It doesn't seem fair that we could end up losing out when we have been told not to travel by the Government.
I have seen insurance companies with cover for positive Covid tests results, but nothing specifically said if you are not allowed to travel within UK due to a local lockdown.  Has anyone found this specific information with a travel insurance company?
Thanks

  • I’d really like to know this as well.

battleface offer a good policy but this excludes lockdown travel expenses (getting home).

It sounds similar to "If you’ve been told to self-isolate by NHS, but haven’t been tested" on this list

So you could contact the ones in that column and find out if you would be covered.

I have looked into the exclusions on the Allianz cover, it appears we would still not be covered unless we were personally told to self-isolate.  So I guess if we were contacted under trace & protect and told we have to do so.
However - "This does not include any quarantine that applies generally or broadly to some or all of a population, vessel or geographical area, or that applies based on where you are travelling to, from or through."
I would take that to refer to a local lockdown :-(

If you are told to isolate by track and trace, then the right thing to do would be to follow the rules.
If you are told to isolate because an area has gone into lockdown, I would have thought you could still travel abroad. eg Manchester is in some sort of lockdown but there are still flights leaving from the airport.
Even is you are required to isolate because you have been to an unsafe country abroad in the last 14 days you are allowed to leave the country.

Thanks, I don't know if the rules are differing slightly from England to Scotland.  I live in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City have been told to go into lockdown.  They are only allowed to travel 5 miles for exercise and have been told to not go to each others houses.  I, being from outwith the city am told not to enter the city.  Although, as you say what about airports, as the nearest airport is Aberdeen, I can only assume that I am allowed to use it as I am from outwith the lockdown area, however someone who lives in Aberdeen would not be allowed to travel.  The holiday we have booked is in Scotland, so the rule about travelling would come into force if we were to be put in to lockdown also.  We obviously hope that this will not extend any further than Aberdeen City, but I wanted to be prepared if I can be, in the event that it does happen and we can't travel.
