Staywarm - huge increase!

Hello, I've just read some of the other messages about Staywarm with interest, and wanted to add in my bit! We are with Staywarm and have been for a few years - we have a two bedroom terraced house in Northumberland. Last year we paid £49.95 per month, but this year this is increasing by over 20% to £60.25. The increase seems quite large and I wondered if other Staywarm customers have experienced a similar rise in their monthly bills?

I like the convenience of knowing exactly what we're paying, but am going to start to compare prices to see if we can get a better deal elsewhere.

If you check your own meter and know what your unit costs and any standing charges are, you can still budget quite accurately even paying direct debit for a variable use. To my mind, paying £fixed every month is likely to be an expensive option unless you have your windows open and heating on all winter and windows closed & air conditioning on all summer. All companies are in business to make a profit, and, if you believe that Staywarm is a bargain they are probably making more profit from you than you think.

My suggestion is to check your readings against competitors' prices and see what results you get. I live in a 3 bedroom bungalow and my electricity & gas (hot water & heating) combined doesn't come to £50 per month even in the dead of winter.
