    MC24 - how do you know all this - what went on 30 years ago - were you there?
    The paper evidence has gone to NBS and found against you (sorry your father) then you quite rightly went to the ombudsman who found against you as well.
    If your appeal fails what will you do? Will you sue? (If so who's money will be at risk?).

    The only point i would bring across in regards to money being taken out the account is - it is taken in a lump sum - they do not take it out and say £12 is for ppi, £180 is for the mortgage etc. If this is a basis of argument to not uphold a claim, then i'm unsure why anyone ever got PPI refunded for loans or credit cards as if they looked on their bills they would have seen it wouldn't they? And that to for many many years.

    Most MPPI is regular payment with a standalone direct debit.  Only a few building societies from the mid 80s to early 90s would collect it with the mortgage.   In those cases, the insurance would appear on the mortgage statement.

    Credit card PPI tended to be slightly lower quality than MPPI.    Loan PPI the worst.    The majority of complaints that get upheld are either due to auto-payout or an identifiable reason (eligibility - i.e. unable to claim on the policy, pre-existing conditions or wont pay out in addition to employer benefits) or an identified failure in the documentation.   Advised cases also have a higher standard regarding suitability which non-advised cases do not.  

    Time is an issue that dilutes credibility as it goes on.   Someone complaining within a few months of paying a premium would be considered highly credible even if all the evidence pointed towards it being sold correctly.   Someone complaining 15-20 years after paying rarely succeeds on unprovable allegations.   However, a good number go on to succeed because of other failings.  Firms/banks are required to look at the whole process when a complaint is made.  Not just the complaint reasons given.


    Nobody comes out of the PPI issue smelling of roses.  The regulators knew about it for decades then let it carry on.  The banks obviously for sales techniques and doing it and consumers abusing it by putting in fake complaints/try it ons at such high volume.  The process itself allowed people to get away with it without comeback and a whole complaints industry built up on the back of it.

    Even if the MPPI and mortgage were taken under the one direct debit - the annual mortgage statement would show exactly what was what.
