Financial Support.... Please Help

Hi Martin and Forum Users,
Please can anyone offer me some advice on how to survive the job drought during the CoronaVirus....here is my situ.
I am a separated father who has a daughter of 17 who lives with my ex in the house we jointly own and i now rent a room off one of my close friends.
I am currently paying the mortgage, joint life insurance, debt management plan instead of CSA as part of our separation agreement and also the rent where i live and i am also paying all my food bills etc.
I am a limited company contractor for over 30 years and have paid all my bills, NI and taxes on time and i have rarely been out of work but now i find myself out of work due to the pandemic. I was working on a big project at my last contract when Covid-19 hit so the company canned the project early and let me go. During this time as many of you will be aware the job market was hit badly and companies decided not to take anyone on.. The market has now slightly picked up but now you find the jobs are few and far between and there are so many people going for them which makes it harder for me.

I have managed to get payments holidays on my mortgage and loans etc but not my rent or food bills and i have been living on savings for the past 3 months but the money is running out. I cant borrow anymore money from friends or family due to their own issues and i cant move back home due to isolation issues with my family. On the plus side i have been getting a small furlough payment on my basic salary of £500. Because i pay myself dividends i cant claim anymore than that each month and this is due to end soon.

I have tried applying for other jobs outside the IT sector like Waitrose and Lidll and warehouse work but i dont get any responses, my guess is that i am too skilled?
I have tried the universal credit calculator and job seekers allowance but both have said i am not entitled to any payments...... please help :(

Joe

    Hi Martin and Forum Users,

    Martin isnt here any more.

Please can anyone offer me some advice on how to survive the job drought during the CoronaVirus....here is my situ.

Supermarkets are crying out for delivery drivers.  A number of self employed I know have taken temporary jobs with them.  Many of the supermarket jobs are effectively part time allowing you to use still do your self employed work.    My builder told me that there is no shortage and he keeps getting called in to do more.  The supermarkets know that these jobs are likely to be temporary and short term.   So, your skills ability should not be an issue.   Another is an oil industry engineer who is highly educated and skilled and he had no issue.    Both have said that the supermarkets are completely inefficient and unorganised.  So, maybe you should keep trying this option.

Pay yourself more dividends alongside the £500 furlough payments.
You need a discussion with your ex, now that your income is reduced you have to consider reducing your outgoings.
Would it be possible to move back to your home temporarily?
