My son and I are having trouble finding a basic bank account or prepaid card, due to his past troubles. So he can have wages or benefits into. When he was 16/17 he got involved with a county lines drug gang. Who got him involved with drug running, dealing and money laundering. Around the same time we opened a bank account with Lloyds as he was ment to be looking for work, at this time I didn't know what was happening. A few months later after finding out everything and him having to move out of the family home. A letter came to my home, saying his bank account has been closed due to suspicious activities. During his time away from home he used other accounts in the form or prepaid cards for what i presume for money laundering.
Now 3/4 years down the line, he is back staying with a family member wanting to start a new life. And because of his past behaviour we are having trouble finding account or prepaid card for normal and legal money to be paid into.
Could someone please advise me on what we can do to overcome this situation.

At best, he'll need to open a basic account with a new provider.
Forget about any kind of credit until the CIFAS markers are gone. He needs to cut down on the drug dealing and money laundering at least until he has new accounts, otherwise he'll be back at square one for another 6 years.0 -
Time’s the great healer here, but for such serious crimes, it’s not going to heal,in a year or two. As above, he’ll need to open a basic bank account, and run it scrupulously well for as long as it takes.
Try to get him to see a positive in this, if his behaviour didn’t cause him some proper bother he could well be tempted to give it another try if times get tough in the future.0 -
CIFAS markers will hinder the opening of a basic account too. No reason not to run a self check on Experian and Equifax to see what is recorded,0
