I still suspect confusion over rolling balances and statement periods.

The best way to let this sort itself is to not spend on the card at all for the next couple of months.  It is then far easier to track what is going on.
Agreed. Thats my plan. I was so tired yesterday (key worker) im going to try and put some time aside to review statements with a fresh head and move my spending / debits to a debit card.

The issue seems to be the dd payment not yet showing on the account.

I wouldn't change your spending habits, I would complain to M&S about the misleading advice and ask for compensation. Ask for compensation for your call costs too.
  • Just an update - an adviser called today and was much clearer about the situation, and they did not try to bamboozle me with figs and financial terms. There is an irregularity on the account and they are going to call me back to explain once they have looked into this. I wish what they saw on their screen represented the statements that i receive which look pretty - but would be far easier to decipher if they were on an excel spreadsheet.

    Who moved the money?
M&S or did you do it online?
Have you got the credit in your bank account?
Hi  - I called to ask why the credit on the account (creditied in June) hadnt been used to pay off the balance which had been taken from my bank account by direct debit. The adviser said oh the only way to use that amount of money is to have it transferred into your bank account. I said - can i do this? Do i not get a percentage fee if i do this? She said no it was free and she would arrange for the credit to be put into my account within 2 working days. This happened and i got a letter confirming that my account would be credited with the sum.  At no time did anyone at M&S say that this would be classed as a 'spend' on my credit card..
    Thanks.
Sounds like retailer credits are not taken as payments (quite common) so it would take the DD as stated on the last statement.
Debit will be them moving the holiday refund back to your bank account.
Did the holiday refund put your balance in to a credit position by the amount of the refund?
As normally only if the account was in a credit balance would they move the amount over.
