NS&I Setting up for BACS payment

I have registered an Income Bonds account with NS&I and successfully made a debit card payment from my Halifax current account.
I want to set up NS&I as a payee for BACS payment. The instructions on the NS&I site give an 8-digit account number (11994808) and a sort code (60 89 78).
I am instructed to use my account number as a reference, but my NS&I account number is a 9-digit number.
I'm not sure how to proceed.

Does this help? It's from the NS&I website.

Why can't you add a 9 digit number into the reference field? Most will allow double that

    Thanks again for your help.
The graphic you posted (which I had seen this morning) gives an account number (11994808).
However that is not the number I am given as my account number in my NS&I account details, which is a 9-digit number.
So which number should I use when setting up NS&I as a payee in my Halifax current account?
It says in the graphic that "you must enter your Income Bonds account number as the reference."
Am I being dim here, or is this as unclear as I think it is?

    Thanks again for your patience.
I had forgotten that the opportunity to complete the Reference field was on the next page after authorising the creation of the new payee. I (we) have now got it sorted.
  • How to transfer a NS&I Direct ISA to an ISA with a Building Society.
My attempts to fill in the online form to transfer my NS&I Direct ISA to one with the Coventry BS keep being rejected. When transferring INTO the NS&I from my bank, I had to use the sort code 08-31-20 and the Account no 11994808, and gave my individual account no (9 figs) in the reference field.
But what is the sort code for making a transfer OUT of NS&I Direct ISA? And do I put my individual (9 figure) account number in the account number field? Or is that again 11994808, with my own account number in the roll number field? The NS&I website is far from helpful.
Of course I could phone Coventry BS (who have been prompt and helpful on the phone), but I am sure somebody on this forum will know the answer. Thank you.
