Scam Calls (landline and mobile)

Telegraph_Sam said:John Lewis Broadband (part of but not the same as PlusNet). The info was given to me in a phone conversation - sounded plausible enough - so no confirmatory "link". But again, if this is incorrect, what is in it for the scammers for them to make such calls?Because the scammers know 99% of people will realise it's a scam and don't want to waste their time with them. So they use automated diallers and voice messages, then when the 1% of "suckers" press 1, they'll get through to the scammer who'll likely need to "verify" name, address, credit card number CVV etc. This myth that you'll get charged premium rate for pressing a number during an incoming call helps the scammers - it stops people who are aware it's scam, but like to annoy scammers and waste their time, from doing so. It hasn't stopped me, and I've never been charged. There are scams which ask you to call back on a premium rate number, or a missed call from a premium rate number which some mugs call back, ie you make an outgoing call to a premium rate number, they're different.
