I'll second everything that SpookyLukey has said, as similar happened with my cat Tabitha - she was v.elderly when she died, aged 18. She survived a hyperactive thyroid for several years with just two tablets per day to help her. Like Spooky I didn't want to put her through an operation because of her age. In the end it was her kidneys which let her down:cry:.

Someone mentioned on here recently that tablets mixed up in fish paste/spread are a good way to give them to a cat. There are lots of tricks, you'll find the ones which work for you.

Please don't give up on your kitty, he probably has many more good and happy years left in him.

Just had a call from the vets and it's not his thyroid gland so that's a bit of a relief. On the other hand he has a little bit of kidney disease but I was told that was to expected in an older cat. He has a liver infection which the vet says she will treat with antibiotics first and then go from there.
I'm definately not going to give up on him until I think enough is enough, at the end of the day I want him to have quality of life.
Thanks for all the advice and support. :D;)
