please can you help, I'm a single mum and a key worker. I have 5 days booked in Palma with my partner on the 13th August. If we have to quarantine on return how do we do this when living in 2 separate houses with 2 sets of children (13+17)  Also we are both key workers. Is there anything we can do or you can suggest

Assuming whoever you have booked with has said you can’t have a refund, do you have travel insurance? Does it cover you for cancellation due to FCO Advice not to travel?

If you go, then it will depend on when you booked it as to what your employer will expect/allow with regards to quarantine.
You can quarantine as 1 house hold or as 2 separate although I am not sure if you will be allowed to mix during the time

I'm not entirely clear on what the question is, tbh. Are yout asking if you need to quarantine separately or together?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The requirement is for you to isolate ie not leaving your home. How you manage at home is to distance as much as you can from other family members, but no one is going to enter your home to measure the distance you are keeping.
Whether you can work from home or need to take leave (un paid or paid) is something to discuss with your employer.

  • You will just have to agree that 5 days holiday is worth 14 days quarantine (or keep fingers crossed the rules change between now and 17 Aug)    As I understand it being a 'key worker' doesn't automatically qualify for exemption as lots of varying key workers.    Marital status would have no effect either so irrelevant.  Up to you and your partner if you choose to quarantine together or apart I would say.

I think I would look to see if I have a claim under my insurance first of all.   You won't get a refund or be able to claim back from your bank if the holiday is going ahead.       If your insurance doesn't cover you I guess you are between a rock and a hard place and it is a tough decision to make.   I would probably just cancel if my job was at stake.  Depends on your employers.

As key workers  you should be aware of the risk in travelling with no insurance. FCO advice against travel will invalidate any travel  insurance.
Would your employer be happy for you return to work without quarantine ?
I would have thought  being a key worker it was more appropriate to self isolate when you come back rather than risk passing on the virus to patients.

Your employer doesn't have the luxury of deciding that you can breach the quarantine rules and return to work! If you are required to quarantine your can't go to your work place, unless you are on a list of workers that are exempt.
