Please don't clean the throttle body every year. You're actually likely to cause damage rather than prevent it.

Is the type, model, age, engine of car you drive a state secret?
    Looks a bit like it.
Basic info that would assist it giving an answer to the problem.

Info was provided before you made your post. With explanation as to the 'secrecy'.

    Please explain why.

Not challenging you to say you're wrong. For all I know you could be wrong or right, I've no idea.

If it's the type with the MAF sensor in it then you can damage the thermistor just by wiping it with a cotton bud, they're quite delicate little flowers. If it's just the type that's got a butterfly valve in it and very little else then fill your boots although you're still wasting your time doing it every year but if it makes you feel better..... :-)

The MAF is between the air box and the throttle body on mine. Mine is the one with the butterfly, yes. It was cable up to and including the Y plate but electronic from 51 plate onwards.

Also, cleaning does make a difference. Maybe not necessary to do it annually, no, but as i have the bonnet open due to doing an oil change anyway then to whip the TB off for a little extra time is no big deal and it just keeps on top of things.

As for me saying it does make a difference - when i got the car i went to pull off and as i put my foot down there was nothing. It ended up being a dangerous move. It happened a few more times and i looked in to it. I was pointed towards the TB. The car was probably about 8 years old at the time and when i took the TB off it was caked. I gave it a thorough clean. The little pinhole breather lines were total blocked. Once i'd cleaned it that problem never returned (the one i'm experiencing now feels different to how it did then).
