Should i switch or just put up with variable?

From Sept 1st my current energy fix will come to an end and i will go onto a variable rate. I would usually shop around for another fixed deal. BUT
My home is now sale agreed. Not found the next house yet (fingers crossed I will soon). It could be months before we move; i'd rather not pay above the odds for gas and electric, esp as we move into autumn.
Are fixed deals 'portable' to a different address if you move house, if so are there usually fees?
Tempted to shop around anyway, but only for deals with no exit fee.
Thoughts?

    They ae not portable.
No problem with a fix for your present property as you will not be charged an exit fee when you move. Shop around as usual.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

You need  to make sure you choose a plan that has NO exit fees.  Plans are not portable so, if you had chosen a fixed deal and then moved, you would have to pay an exit fee.  (and don't forget, exit fees are charged at 20% VAT, unlike fuel at 5%)

This is not correct. A home move voids your contract without penalty, fixed or variable.

There were a few suppliers, and maybe  there still are, who would charge an Early Exit for a house move.
Hopefully these suppliers are amongst  those who have fallen by the wayside, but still wise to check.

It's not just energy deals that aren't portable, that also goes for your current supplier.
When you move to your new home, YOU MUST REGISTER with that dwellings current supplier, and only after you have opened an account with them can you change to another supplier  -  The same thing applies to the buyers of your present home who will be initially tied to the supplier you had when you moved out

Wasn't Octopus one of these, going back two or three years?

Simply switch to the best deal with no exit fees. I'm on a really cheap fix with no exit fees. Do a comparison.
