Unfair change of mind policy?

In a nutshell, we paid upfront for a superking bed and separate headboard from a major bed company beginning with B totalling around £1500 due to be delivered in a month although we had an option for finance.
Finding a few days later that the headboard was close to £275 we wanted to leave the headboard and make our own arrangements for less than half the price.
On speaking to the company about cancelling the headboard we were drawn to their T&Cs stating a change of mind is only valid within 24 hours and if after that time you are subject to a 20% handling charge on the TOTAL amount?
Is that me snookered with no redress at all?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

I take it you bought in store? If so, you have no right to a change of mind at all and if they offer one, they can attach terms to it.
If you ordered online, you have a way of cancelling without cost.1 -
As above, on the assumption you purchased all this in store then you have to abide by the T&Cs of their returns policy, they don't legally have to accept a change of mind return at all.0

You would appear to have 14 days to cancel the order if it is not "correct". If the cost of the headboard was different in the store to what appeared on the order, you might try to argue that the order isn't "correct", but you have no legal rights here so your best option is to negotiate with them to cancel, but perhaps pay them 30% of the cost of the headboard. You are still better off it you can get a headboard you like for less than half the cost of their item.
You would have got a better and cheaper bed if you had bought it from Premier Inns:
https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/sleep/buy-our-bed.html £1,050 for the Superkingsize Mattress & Devan base. They are built to a higher standard that retail mattresses of a similar price.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
