Argos Nintendo Wii RIP- OFF

Hi,I would like to bring something to your attention. We signed up to stock alerts from various companies regards the Ninteno Wii -upon receiving stock, individuals were e/mailed to advise that the Wii was in stock at the relevant companies whereby you could purchase a Wii on a first come first serve basis. However , we got a stock alert from Argos, went on their site and proceeded to order and pay for a Nintendo Wii.We paid for express delivery and in total cost £244.We then got an e/mail advising that our card would be debited first and if they could not fulfill the order our card would be refunded. There was no confirmation regards the date of delivery even though I had paid extra for a Monday delivery slot, NO order number or total paid and no details of when we would be refunded. Is it normal practice for them to take the money and then hopefully at some point either send the item or refund the money. If they have done this to all there customers they would gain thousands in interest alone before either sending out the Wii or refunding our money sitting in their account. There phone line is permanently engaged and e/mails received just say that they will try and send the Wiis out but not when we will be refunded. There is no mention of a cut off point for refunding us our money.BE WARNED & BE CAREFULLRegardsLucy & Jim

Hi Lucy,
I'm afraid their are many other threads on MSE telling the same story:mad:0 -
Perhaps it’s done to stop people from placing multiple orders without committing themselves to spending any money – gives a better chance that Wiis will be distributed fairly than having a few people grab the lot.0

Didnt some companies do this with Wii last xmas as well?0

Someone else has suggested that Argos have made quite abit of money doing this. They take everyone's money and put it on overnight deposit and make a big pile of interest.:mad:0

Argos has a policy of charging as soon as the order is placed, even if the items are not in stock (this is how the delivery only stuff works)
they should give you an order number at least - would be worth complaining but the 0870 numbers will be rammed this time of year - used to be 100 odd plus in the cue when i was there (4 years ago)0
