Travel Republic Hotel Refund

We had booked to go to Benidorm on 31st of July. Despite the advice from the government not to travel to Spain, our flights booked directly with Ryanair were still going ahead so we decided to travel anyway.
On the 29th of July I learnt that our hotel was actually closing that same day and confirmed this by contacting them myself. I tried to get in touch with travel republic both online and via telephone but only got an automated message telling me the call centre was closed.
We eventually decided not to travel due to there been no hotel to go to.
After trying for several days to get in touch with travel republic, I finally got a response today, on the 3rd of August. They simply told me that I had been transferred to another hotel and that I would not be receiving a refund for not travelling.
Surely, it isn't acceptable to tell me 3 days after I was due to travel that my hotel has closed and I have been transferred to a new one? Did travel republic expect me to sleep on the beach for 3 nights until they finally contacted me?
Is there anything I can do to get the refund I believe I am owed?
Thanks in Advances for advice

Not the answer you seek but could you not have travelled and booked accommodation when you arrived after all there must be loads of capacity in resort with so few traveling. Then you could sort things out with TR and you had your holiday.0
