One cancelled flight

In January I booked flights and insurance directly through EasyJet to Mallorca at the end of August. Last week, the return flight was cancelled and I've been able to ask for a refund. However, the outbound flight hasn't been cancelled and my only option is to move it to another flight, which I don't want to do due to my health. Do I have any options for the outbound flight? My insurance won't cover Coronavirus cancellations and I'm thinking that they'll say that I can still travel because I can book another return flight.
The added complication is that the children in my party were due to return to school, two weeks after the outbound flight...

Did you book both with the same airline at the same time on the same booking?

In which case one being cancelled allows you to request cancellation and full refund of the other but you need to ask them.

In which case being cancelled allows you to DEMAND a full refund for both flights and you should first TELL them that as a consequence of THEM cancelling the return flight, you in turn are cancelling the outbound flight and DEMANDING a full refund on both flights.

    Alright, calm down!
  • Sadly, that's what I would like, but not being offered. It's impossible to get through to them too.

Or you could just remain civil and polite with the poor call handler and calmly explain the situation and what you would like to happen.

Playing Mr Ranty will not help your blood pressure or the situation.

No wonder some people get mysteriously disconnected when they call customer service lines....
  •  :D  Couldn't agree more Westin.    The poor people at the end of the phone deserve to be treated with respect.   I would hang up if someone started DEMANDING things from me too!

It doesnt have to be offered. Its an EU regulation and you are entitled to a full refund as one of the legs has been cancelled. Send them an written communication, their website should have detals of how to do this.

I’m in no way suggesting the OP starts bellowing out commands down the phone (should she ever get anyone to answer the call that is). Just that she makes absolutely sure she lets them know that she is fully aware of her rights to a full refund. If she starts ‘asking’ or ‘requesting’ all she will get back is an attempt to fob her off with voucher or free flight changes and attempts to deny the obligation to refund. So okay, strike DEMAND if you fear it’s too ‘shouty’ and replace with ATHORITATIVE REQUEST and yes, I would so in writing.
