I was going to order a windowsill greenhouse from ikea and use click and collect but why are they charging £9.95 service charge when delivery is only £3.95.

I grabbed one from Wilko some time ago, it's about a metre long and great for deliveries when I'm out0 -

I guess Ikea can charge what they like and you can choose to pay or not pay for the service.

£9.95 service charge to click and collect a small item makes no sense.Collection at an IKEA store or Order and collection Point is £9.95 or free if you spend over £300.
Collection at an external DPD pick up point is £3.50.For collection at an external DPD pick up point, only smaller parcel-size orders will be accepted with a maximum dimension of 60x60x60 and maximum weight of 20kg.DPD collection is probably cheaper than fuel costs for the 30 mile journey.

It certainly seems to be a service priced to discourage customers from using it.

Collect it from DPD pick up point

I guess this is because Ikea are operating two different businesses and the costs are different.
Order online for home delivery (or DPD collection for small items) and it comes direct from a warehouse so they have factored the costs of picking the items into the service offered to shop online.
Order for store collection and store staff are collecting the items for you, so they are charging you for the costs associated with this.2
