TESCO CAR INSURANCE

Hi,
My car insurance is due for renewal on the 18th August. I'm using the comparison websites on this site. Tesco car insurance has come up as one of the cheapest but I've read some really bad reviews. Googled my current insurer which is Sheila's Wheels/Esure (same company) and they get equally bad reviews. I know that people tend to leave bad reviews much more than good reviews.

My question is: Has anyone had any experience with Tesco car insurance, good or bad. You only really find out how good or bad an insurance company actually is until you have to make a claim? Tesco's renewal price is about £50 cheaper per annum.

Thanks in advance.

I've used them but never claimed so as you say, I've no real insight into how good or bad they are.  From reading this forum and from personal experience, never, never buy insurance on price alone.  Saving £50 in a year is all very well but one troublesome claim will wipe out that saving and some.

Just google reviews. The insurance company won't be Tesco; as with many banks and other front-ends, the underlying insurer will be another company altogether. My impression is that 'Tesco' insurance is not great for service and when it comes to making a claim but dyor. It is certainly not the worst out there.

Agree it is not great for service. I was with them. Someone went into me and drove off. I had witnesses and the reg. no of the offending vehicle. They were efficient at getting the repair dealt with but very poor at dealing with other aspects of the claim and settled 50-50 and basically said "if you don't like it leave" so I did.

Have used Tesco for three years. They were very good  when our car was written off.
I have always found the call centre very approachable and efficient.
